Export to .jpeg
#1
Hello,

When I export the attached image to .jpeg, the resulting image is a whole purple background (no silhouette). What can I do?

Thanks

Your image has a transparent background. jpeg does not support transparency.

When you export as jpeg, the transparent background is replaced with the gimp background colour, which I suspect is purple.

Option 1. Set the gimp background colour to white (the foreground/background colour swatches)

Optlion 2. Add a white layer below the purple silhouette.

Your png is a bit strange, It is an indexed image with 256 colours, but 254 of those are purple +1 black + 1 white. Where did you get that?

The easiest way to get it to a jpeg is:
Make sure background color is white.
Image -> Mode -> RGB then Layer -> Transparency -> Remove Alpha Channel (not absolutely necessary since jpeg does not support transparency)
Now export to a jpeg.

Remember to state Gimp version when posting questions

Had to look up the png specs. Always something new to learn.

Indexed png handles transparency in a very simple way, the png transparency entry is first in the colormap.

For the above image the colormap was almost all purple, including the first entry.

Change that to white, then export to jpeg (or remove the alpha channel) gives the required result.
