Hi

i have a question about a jpg setting in GIMP : "use estimated quality" or "use original picure quality settings"

If I change jpg quality (90 to 95  by exemple), choose optimize and progressive options, what about "use estimated quality" ?

thanks

This is the section from the gimp docs

https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-images-out.html  Scroll down to 1.2.2. Export Image as JPEG

Good information there about the various settings.
Nothing about "use estimated quality" Where does that come from?

This options means that the JPEG is exported with the same settings as the initial image (if it was a JPEG). For instance, the JPEG from your camera being Quality 97, with full chroma, is exported with quality 97 and full chroma again.

So if I change a jpg picture quality, for instance, 90 to 95, what does happen if this options is set ?

thanks
Look closely at the JPGE options ndialog: if the option is set and you change the quality in the slider, the option is unset, and conversely, if you set the option, the quality slider moves to represent the initial quality setting of the image. Si you can't have both the option set and a quality setting different from the original.

Hi  Can You help me for another question.................please
I opened a picture with Gimp and it says that jpg quality is 90......
If i set "Use original quality", Gimp says that this original jpg quality is 80.....
What happened exactly when the photographer changed it to 90......

is quality 80 is the one from the camera ?

thanks...............Happy 2018

Where does Gimp says so? In the JPEG save options?

"Original quality" for Gimp is the quality of the image it loaded, which can be different from the one out of the camera if this isn't the original picture?
