Full Version: Major Resynthesizer Problem

I just downloaded Gimp (and Adobe Bridge) after research and recommendation from a family member, as Picasa is no longer supported and I need to sort and organise about 10,000 photos (including several thousand to be scanned from original photos). I like the idea of the Resynthesizer function to remove unwanted objects, but ...
. Downloaded Resynth plugins, didn't work. Got error message when trying to use it.
. Repeated above, several times, deleting each set of plugins before trying again.
. Read about Script-fu Heal-Selection plugin. Tried that. Worked, but REALLY slow and no variables to adjust like the tutorial I watched.
. Don't know what Python is, but a page I read said the plugin uses it, so I downloaded it, then re-downloaded the Resynth plugins.
. Resynth now shows in Filters>Map, but none of the plugins (especially Heal-Selection) show in Filters>Enhance!

I also tried the clone and brush tools, but when I set the sample area, the + appears only until I move the mouse to start cloning and then the sample circled area moves as I move the mouse, which didn't happen in the tutorial either!

HELLLLLLP. I'm not overly computer literate when it comes to the backend side, but I'm a pretty intelligent person and can usually work my way through. However, after over 5 hours of failure, I'm about ready to pack the lot in and go back to good old, discontinued, Picasa.
Confused
PS. I'm using Windows 7
No need to install Python, it is built in the Windows version. The main Resynthesizer functions are in Filters>Enhance (as "Heal selection" and "Heal transparency").

That's the problem, they don't appear in Enhance? (as per photo)
@Kez

Heal-selection is dependent on resynthesizer plugin working so check in Filters -> Map where there should be an entry.

Possibly you have resynthesizer v1 which is old and might not work also there is an old heal-selection as a Gimp script-fu (something.scm) to get versions that do work see:

The clone tool is a different matter. Same as many Gimp tools it has various modes. Maybe in aligned and should be in none and releasing the mouse to reset origin or fixed

see: https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-tool-clone.html

Thanks rich2005, all sorted. I had tried that other download a couple of times today, but it didn't work. Perhaps the Python program wasn't on my PC already. The last download I did, after installing Python, was back to the original version. I have just done the newer download again and it is finally working!

Also, the clone tool worked when I set the alignment to Fixed ... Yay!

Looks like I've got a steep learning curve coming my way!

Cheers. :-)

I find the 'Aligned' mode the most useful. Whenever i want to paint something away, i set the clone point below the target and then draw a line, so it picks up a different but matching texture from below.
Thanks Espermaschine, I'll try that too. :-)
