Hello
My layers toolbox is frozen... All the buttons are greyed and I can't select a layer. I was just trying to move the current layer down the list but nothing happened.
I read in another post that I should have "auto follow active image" selected, which I have tried, but nothing has changed.
I've been using gimp for a while, and can find solutions to most problems in various forums, but this one has stumped me and I'm up against a deadline! Any help gratefully received.
Thanks
I've got the usual starter questions...

What exact version of GIMP (2.8.18, 2.6.7 etc) and what operating system?
...similar to Kevin

Which operating system and version of Gimp ? How can you tell what is greyed out with that dark theme Wink edit: Is that Parth's version?

Are you using Gimp in default multi-window mode? Follow Active layer Off was used in the past to permit dragging a layer from one image to another. Not needed anymore with an up-to-date Gimp in single window mode. Use Follow Active Image ON.

With Follow Active OFF

Apart from that you could try disabling your gimp profile by renaming. Start gimp to create a new empty profile. Go into single window mode. See if that now works. That might point to the problem.
Hello Kevin
It's 2.8.4 and I'm working on macOS Sierra 10.12.1

Not many (any) Mac users here: You might need to update GIMP. Some references which I am sure you have already seen.

You could try asking the question on the gimpchat.com forum where there are some OSX users.

Thanks Rich2005. I will try that, and also try updating gimp. In the meantime, I quit and relaunched. The problem persisted the first time I tried, but then with a full computer restart it's back to usual again. Thanks for your help. R
