Man, I just cannot figure out how to get rid of the fade.
I just want to stroke, paintbrush or pencil with a solid color, no fade. No Gradient, No nothing.
Just a hard-edged, color. One solid color without Gimp applying the fade.
What should I set my settings to?
Does what I'm asking for make sense?
Pencil gives a hard edge, no anti-aliasing pixels.
Paint Brush has a softer edge, brush hardness can be set.
Set Dynamics to Dynamics Off.
what about stroking?

There are 2 options:
Stroke a selection; or stroke path
(Stroking a path generally gives better results)

For each of those there are 2 options
Stroke Line; or stroke with a paint tool.
If you stroke with a paint tool the currently selected paint tool will be used (as per my previous post)

Look at the dialogue to see more options that are available.
Thanks Blightly!
Here's another one, same vein: how can I erase without anti-aliasing? or "fade" if I'm not using the term correctly.

See attached.

The pixel brush works well for small sizes. But it is always square. Other wise use a round brush with hardness 1.00

Another way of "erasing" is to use layer masks. The advantage of this method is that it is non-destructive.
awesome! many thanks!
