I tried to clone  50% opaque layer on another layer. The result is the same as cloning 100% opaque layer. How do I clone translucent and semi-transparent image?

That is the way copy paste works.

Alternatives:

1. Click-n-drag between images works.
Drag the semi-transparent layer to the other image tab https://i.imgur.com/Pds8wPc.jpg
That makes the image active https://i.imgur.com/r8QkiuW.jpg
Continue into the canvas to set the layer https://i.imgur.com/G8GJpgQ.jpg That maintains the original layer opacity

2. Make the semi-transparent layer the only visible.
Layer -> New from Visible.
Copy and paste that. Layer has the semi-transparency but is now 100% layer opacity. https://i.imgur.com/D2IEHeB.jpg

Oh - you slipped a quote from the manual in again.

No matter, is this a real time piece of editing or just a query about that manual entry.

For actual editing, the clone tool has its own opacity setting. Make the value same as the layer you are cloning.

It was a stupid question. I'll do better. Thanks. Smile
