I've read about the cage tool. It seems to be very convenient tool for manipulating images.

My Gimp stops whenever I finished the selection, just after the "cage transform" appears on the screen.

Is it just I having this issue?
Summary from the manual:

Create or adjust the cage
Deform the cage to deform the image
When the work is done, press the Enter key to confirm it.
This is a recurring issue since the cage-transform tool was first introduced. It is caused by some mis-match with one of the linux dependencies. With various updates, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not work. Not limited to Ubuntu, it affects other debian based distros such as Mint and certainly my old distro of choice PClinuxOS which is nowhere near Debian.

It is not dependent on version of Gimp. This Kubuntu 16.04 and Gimp 2.8.22. https://i.imgur.com/vjXRsEU.jpg The problem has been reported as a bug any number of times but since it is a linux system conflict not much they can do.

At the moment cage-transform works in the Gimp 2.10.2 flatpak https://i.imgur.com/NQXDION.jpg

Windows users stand a better chance since Gimp comes as a complete package with all the files fixed versions. (although Windows Gimp 2.10 users might disagree with current problems)

Not as much use as you might think, When I set up Gimp, one of the tools I remove from the tool box icons and consign to the tools menu Wink

Whenever you want to add a tatoo and need the image to conform to the curvature of the body, you might want to consider to re-activate it    Wink
I am sure that is one use Smile

I just remove icons from the toolbox for tools that I very seldom use. They are always accessible from the Tools menu.

Typically:
Foreground Select - not very good.
Zoom - I use the mouse scroll wheel
Align - very rarely needed by me
Cage Transform - covered that one
Air Brush and Ink tool - I can see artists use but I never use these
Heal Tool - Prefer the regular clone tool which I use a lot
Perspective Clone - do not think I have ever used that.
Blur and Sharpen / Dodge and Burn - use them sometimes, there in the tools menu
Then the whole load of icons that are not enabled by default.

Same, although i quite frequently use the Align and Heal Tool.
I'd agree with Rich's list and also remove Scale,Shear,Flip & MyPaint Brush

I also remove some "advanced" selection tools, but keep most transforms (though in 2.10 I may replace most of them with the Unified transform). I also remove pencil/ink (but keep the airbrush, very useful o photos). But I add Threshold, Levels, Curves, and Brightness-Contrast to the palette.

You don't need it if you use ofn-path-edits/reverse strokes Smile
