Not sure about using pen tool.

I click and make several dots... all OK.

But then... if I want to delete a dot in the middle, how do I do this?

I somehow click away or do something.
Now when I click, the next dot is not connected.
What am I doing wrong?
How do I connect?

Thanks.

Joining nodes is a bit tricky.
The path between two nodes is called a segment or stroke.

You can delete a segment by clicking on it with the paths tool while holding down CTRL + Shift.

Lets assume you deleted a segment in a path with many nodes and want to re-join the nodes.
The node you want to connect must be selected. When its selected, it doesnt look like a white circle but more like a transparent ring with a square in it (the handle).
So if your node is a white circle, Shift click to select it.
Then click on the node you want to connect, while holding down CTRL.

OK
so i spent a LOT of time reading
don't know why... it seems hard to understand
much wiser now

some things still i am not sure of.
i have a selection. i make a path from selection.
how do i hide the selection so i can see the path underneath?
(i still want to keep the selection)

is it possible to save a path? or is that redundant because you can save a selection?

EDIT: i just saved and closed a file. the selection points aren't there
i'm pretty sure your link page said i could save points? (or maybe i misread?)

let me know
thanks.
When you make a path, it appears in the paths-tab (if you dont have one, you can open it with the Menu. Windows -> Dockable Dialogues).

The path's visibility can be switchend on and off, just like a layer.

its not my link, its the official Gimp manual
@Espermaschine thanks for all replies
i'm getting to love using gimp now

paths toolbox i found.
i can hide an unhide - but the round dots don't dissapear
this is a problem as selection can be slightly off - u only find out when u see the export otherwise
am i doing something wrong? i assumed the round circles where the 'selection and not the walking ants line?

Yeah, thats kind of annoying. Switching to another tool will make the nodes disappear, when a path is turned off.

I usually hit M for the Move Tool (easy to memorise).

For better accuracy when placing the nodes, just zoom in real closely.
The normal zoom at the bottom of the canvas goes to 800%, but you can go way beyond that.

Not sure if this is normal behaviour, but my Gimp zooms in and out by holding down CTRL and using the mousewheel.
