Hello,
I've just downloaded Gimp 2.10.4 and the eraser acts like a paintbrush filling the image with colour.
I know there is a procedure for resolving this but I've forgotten it. Can someone please enlighten me,

Is the eraser using the background colour? often white.

The image/layer needs an alpha channel - transparency

Use Layer -> Transparency -> Add Alpha Channel
