Tool options are normally displayed in the toolbox window below the tool selection icons. However, I've inadvertently done something to change this behavior so that it no longer happens. I've hunted through the Help, which BTW doesn't seem to work on GIMP 2.10.10, without being able to figure out what happened.
Would someone please explain how to put it back the way GIMP normally works by default?

Windows -> Dockable Dialogues -> Tool Options (1) will add a tab to the right side dock (2) . Then a click-n-drag into the area under the tool box (3)

Edit -> Preferences -> Window Management click on Reset Saved Windows Positions to Default Values. OK that Restart Gimp.
And when it is back in place lock the tab to the dock.
Very nice. Looks like my main problem was knowing what to drag.
However, I now have another similar problem likely caused by my uninformed hacking. According to GIMP Help, as well as my own experience, the window on the right side of the screen normally has 2 different (?) sub-windows. One for "Layers, Channels, & Paths" the other for "Brushes, Patterns, & Gradients". It looks like I now have just one which is the "Layers, Channels, & Paths".
How can I put that back the way GIMP sets it by default?
This experience makes me think it could be helpful to have a simple way to restore this kind of customization to the default setup. Might that be possible?

Of course possible.
Gimp has 'hot' spots' at the junction of docks and window.
As with the tool options add a (say) brush tab the drag and drop down to the bottom of the dock. That will open a new dock. Takes a little practice so do not give up.

Once you have that, use the little left pointing arrow which brings up a menu for adding / removing etc.

Oh my! So simple yet so hard to figure out.
Many thanks, I've been using GIMP for quite awhile without knowing how these things work. I'm thinking this will really help. BTW, the bar was NOT blue but rather grey in my case. This would be GIMP 2.10.8 with theme set to "Gray" on 64bit Windows. Also tried "System" theme but bar still gray.

The whole window setup is kept in the
sessionrc file in your
Gimp profile. But by the time you are familiar with that file you will have gotten the gist of the Gimp "docks". Once you understand you drag things by the tab and not by the title bar (like web pages in Chrome/Firefox) and that the hihgjlihgt you get teh the cursor in on the edge of windows indicates that you dialog will be insert in a new tile, things become really easy.
