I guess this is kinda picky, but is the FG/BG tool supposed to open with white foreground?
When I want a new screen, I always have to click the FG/BG tool or go to advanced options in the file new dialog and say open in foregraund color.
Is there a way to get it to open with black foreground and white background?
I've looked at all the items in edit preferences and can't find it.
It's just because Gimp remembers a setting you used.

See http://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Your-Gi...l-settings
I'm very careful to always have the foreground black when I quit Gimp.
What I'm trying to find out is: What setting does it remember that causes this behavior?

I think the other way round, it forgets settings if Save tool options on exit is un-checked, which is the best option.

Read ofnuts advice again but briefly

Choose the tool you want to open with (paint tool is a good option)
Set FG and BG colours to default (that little icon bottom of the color squares)
Choose the brush
Set the brush size
Choose a font
Set the font size
set anything else you can think of.

Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Tool Options
Click on Save Tool Options Now
