The easiest method is with the arakne path creator. You can find details here:

If you have a selection the semi-circle will be created inside the selection. Otherwise the whole layer is used.
Once you have the path do Edit > Stroke path. Best done on a new layer.

This looks exactly like what I want to do but I can't open the arakne path creator.

Just had a line follow a path and then erased part of it. Did the trick!
