So uhh, my Layers disappeared, I was making a YouTube Banner and was recommended this, I was like, this shouldn't be so bad, it was... It was rage inducing, and to learn to use the darn thing I have to pay money? What? Also I had the tool box, the actual screen, and the layers, but now the layers and stuff are gone, I got the layers back, but now I don't have the background that came with Gimp... How do I get them back? And how do I color separate letters? Any video or answers for all my questions? Please and thank you.
Gimp is completely free and you never have to pay any money to use it (even if donations to the Gimp project are always welcome).

Plenty of questions and not too clear what you have and where you want to go? Can you attach a screenshot?

Re-set Gimp and start again.
Gimp menu Edit -> Preferences -> Window Management -> Reset Window Positions to Default Values then restart Gimp

This old-ish video I did for someone who had screwed up the interface, https://youtu.be/i2sKkA3vqvw shows the procedure.

A set of videos about installing Gimp on Windows - try the second one.

Colouring individual letters can be done in different ways, Making the text outline into a selection and fill is one.

A better way, use the text tool for this, plenty how-to's around, this one is mine,
