Every time I close and open GIMP, the gradients tab goes invisible. I have to use ADD TAB each time to bring it back. Is there any method to make sure that existing tabs do not vanish with the Quit action ? Thanks.

Try:
Once you have added the tab. Edit -> Preferences -> Window Management then click Save Window Positions Now and OK
also try
Click on the Gradients tab. Then the little left pointing arrow next to the tabs. That brings up a menu click on the Lock tab to dock option.
