Please help, not sure whats going on. Alpha to selection creates strange behaviour
Strange. I just tested the same thing you did: use the text tool, move it to the center, then alpha to selection, and I had no problem. I've never seen anything like what happened in your video before. Currently I'm not using 2.9 (and not on Windows), but maybe someone else can test it.
Cannot reproduce on 2.8.22 Linux. If you have some security software, try disabling it temporarily, these are known to have strange interactions with other software.
If you are using the builds from gimp.org, you could try with a build from partha.com (and vice-versa).
Otherwise, worth reporting a bug on bugzilla.gnome.org.

Ok, thank you, will try the options you have suggested. Its strange because I used to have a working version. I then changed my screen from a 1080p to 4k. Had to change some settings to make the icons visible but now I get strangeness. Have tried installing 2.8.22 then 2.9 and an earlier version but keep getting the same strange happenings. Thought it might be a setting within the program that's being transferred over each time but I'm stumped if it is...
Will post on here if I find a solution :-)
I have downloaded version 2.9.6 from partha .com and everything seems to work fine. Thanks for your advice, hopefully no more issues :-)

I meant a build of 2.8.x. 2.9.6 is a development version, it can and will break someday
