Full Version: editing floating selections / alpha channel locked (2.10.32)

Recently switched to a newer version of GIMP (2.10.32) and finding that I am unable to edit floating selections without clicking on the alpha channel lock/unlock every time I want to make an edit to a floating selection.

Is there any way to turn this off this alpha channel lock (for floating selections) permanently?

Having to click it off manually every time I want to make an edit on a floating selection is clunky / highly annoying, compared to the ease and functionality of the previous version (2.8) that I was using.

Kinda assuming there's no way within the current 2.10.32 version to permanently turn off automatic alpha channel lock for floating selections,
is it possible to manipulate the coding itself to do this?  I have no idea how to go about this....
As far as I can tell Gimp 2.8 also does the alpha-lock on the floating selection after a paste (just tested on 2.8.22)

See this for "solutions".

Specifically, editing a moving selection before anchoring it onto layer: move a floating selection into place, using a rectangle to delete unwanted sections, then anchoring it into place on layer.

My old version was actually 2.8.22. Never had it stop me from doing these edits on the fly because of an alpha channel lock, but i don't know the more technical aspects of GIMP much at all.

Alpha lock is fine after a paste, just having to click the alpha channel lock off for every edit while manipulating a floating selection is a pain, tho a hotkey to toggle function off would help...thanks for link.
