It's always a challenge to optimise skin colour. I find this video a good learning curve.

I think you can find in gimp the same things as seen on this dashboard : Colours/Color Grading, Colours/Curves, Colours/Levels, layers, layer modes and I'm missing Vectorscape (I think).
