Hello friendly people,

So I was using my Wacom tablet in GIMP 2.10 (Tablet model CTH-460 if that matters) and all the dynamics were working just fine until they just... suddenly weren't. There is a text box that says "Dynamics Off", but there's no drop down and right clicking on the field turns up nothing. I can't check or any of the boxes in the mapping matrix, and I can't manipulate any of the other options in the drop-down. I checked tool options in preferences, but nothing there seemed like it would help me out. I also tried updating to 2.10.32, but that didn't change anything either. Does anyone have any idea what might have happened?

Tl;dr: Tablet dynamics suddenly stopped working and refuse to turn back on. Wat do?
OK, so I got my dynamics back by following the instructions in this thread: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Unable...completely and also by going to C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local and deleting the GIMP folder there. but now I can't make user-defined dynamics and have to use the presets? This is all very strange

Open the dynamics dock Windows -> Dockable Dialogs -> Paint Dynamics

Bottom of that dock is a 'Create a new dynamics' icon. Click on that and it opens the Dynamics Editor dock.

It is 'untitled', so give it a name. No need to save, it goes straight into the Tool Options list.

Later on when you have the Paint Dynamics / Dynamic Editor dock closed. You can bring up the editor from the little icon left of the dynamics drop down menu in the tool options.

A bit of a quick (50 second) animation. https://i.imgur.com/MMP8DXr.mp4

Dare say there will be a 30 minute video somewhere on the internet.

  1. You have to click on the icon to the left of the text box to open the drop down to pick another dynamic.
  2. Like with patterns, brushes, and other assets, you cannot edit the Dynamics that come with Gimp. You need to copy an existing one (so that makes the copy a "personal" version) or create one from scratch.

Thank you, this worked! Now I can get back to what I was doing. Thanks again!
