I click the text tool and draw a text box that I need to type 3 or 4 sentences in. However, when I type and my words reach the right edge of the box, the line moves up and I can not drag the box to see it. I only see the last line typed. Why are my sentences automatically NOT dropping down to the next line?

Can you give us a screen shot of your gimp showing your tool options as well when you try this. May have something to to with your baseline settings
In the small box that pops up when you add text it says baseline. In your tool options box it will say linesettings. Make sure that is on 0 or more to have your text fall down after each line.
If you type a text in gimp and after each line you press the 'RETURN' button (= CR or cariage return named as a manipulation on a typewriter), then the text box is enlarged so you can see the full text. You also can use the editor to type lot of text.
