Hello everyone,

Written words will only do so much in explaining this situation, so I made a video recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBoZ711TqQw


The issue: I draw a circle with the circle selection tool and fill it with black. Its layer is placed below the transparent image, behind which it should function as a background.
However, the black lines in the front image suddenly show white, as if some type of layer mode has been applied, which is verified not the case. Again, you would really need to see the video to truly understand this issue.
I'd be most grateful for a solution.

A bit of a guess as to what you are trying to accomplish but...

A layer mask is used with an opaque layer to add a "window" to the layers underneath. The layer of the figure should be without transparency. Layer mode, not required.

Hard to do with a video because we can't check things... Possible causes are an opacity which isn't complete, a black that isn't truly black... Can you attach the XCF?

I see now what happened: Indeed, when I had the background removed using an AI tool, it made a lot of the previously white content in the character transparent. No wonder the images overlap and appear to entwine.
Thank you for pointing out that bit of transparency I overlooked!
