I don't know the reasons behind this decision.
It's disheartening to see so much work, dedication and time invested simply evaporate overnight.
It reminded me a little of the GimpLearn.net case.

Indeed it's disheartening as it feels that people get less and less interest in GIMP
At least Mahvin lets people prepare themself...
