Can I automate Gimp? + How to make shortcuts? - enginestar - 01-10-2018

Can I write a macro for example and automate using a combination of tools?

AND... how can I make shortcuts?
It's painful using the menu for some really basic and simple things!

Like I select something that I wanted deleted.
I have to go to the image menu... or is it file? Oh no... it must be edit...
Now... despite having done 10 times already... what is it that I'm looking for?????????
Aha! Clear!! I click clear.

Painful.
Why cant I just select and hit delete?

Thanks.

Do you really think your bitching is a good idea ?
Yeah we get it, its not like your favorite program, its doesnt have colourful buttons.
You have to use your brain a bit more.
etc.

Its a bit tedious.

Do you complain on the Adobe forum about the tiny layerstyle controls or the good awful Pen Tool ?
Why did Gimp have content aware fill long before PS ?
Its not like Adobe products have no flaws.

There are no macros, only scripts.

You can define your own shortcuts using the totally unexpected "Edit>Keyboard shortcuts" (and if you look, you'll find that most frequent actions have one).

Select+[Delete] (which is unexpectedly the shortcut for "Edit>Clear") works... can you be more specific?

Gimp isn't hard to use, it's PS which is hard to forget.

guys thanks for the replies

@Espermaschine no need to get upset with me. i wouldnt call it bitching. more moaning and whinging and crying in pain. :p
if users never gave feedback then a program would have no way of getting better

@Ofnuts, i followed what you said...
'Delete' should clear. Except it doesnt.

both replies much appreciated. Smile

Most common cause of this complaint is that the transparency isn't enabled on the layer (image loaded from JPEG(*)). If so enable it with Layer>Transparency>Add alpha channel (if this choise is disabled then it is already present).

Otherwise describe exactly what you are doing, the expected results, and the actual results (screenshots being a good idea).

(*) If this is the case, remember that there is no support for transparency in the JPEG format, so if you export to JPEG again transparent areas will be filled with the background color.
