Bloom filter in 2.10.8 - Colkaih - 05-07-2025

Hi,
I am running an old PC, window 8.1 with Gimp 2.10.8, which is the only version that behaves. (Other later versions fail on an invalidate on a DLL).

I am trying to follow a tutorial, but the bloom filter under light and shadow does not exist. From what I can tell, it should exist in this release. I have tried uninstalling & re-installing, with no luck.

Has anyone encountered this, if so, how was it resolved.
Many thanks.

You are out-of-luck

The bloom filter is a GEGL filter and as far as I can tell is not included in the Gimp 2.10.8 package. (at least the one I have)

I have most versions as linux appimages and the earliest I can find is Gimp 2.10.18 and there it is in the (experimental) menu Tools -> GEGL Operations Only later did it go into Light & Shadow.

It is a bit of a funny one - nothing I can think of as a substitute, especially for an old-ish Gimp.

Ahh, nuts, a hazard of using an old system I guess, but no chance of affording a new one. I noticed the inflateValidate error in libpng16-16.dll is very common, but I couldn't find any suggestion of a fix.
I don't suppose theres a later version which does run OK on Windows 8.1 by any chance?

EDIT:  RESULT!   Thanks to your comment, I worked backwards from 2.10.38 checking requirements. Found that 2.10.22 was Win8.1 compatible with help from Google, installed that, it works and bloom is there.
Appreciate that info, I am now a happy bunny.  Big Grin

I do not know, basically I use linux but I do have a Win7 and a Win 10 virtual machines (VM) but no Win 8

Hunting around for old stuff, the old elsamuko-ng script might work. All depends on your image of course. This a comparison.  Script attached - unzip and put in the scripts folder.
