elliptical select changed - fullquartpress - 06-02-2025 I was using fixed size 100x100pixels to elliptical select, expand from center. The results were 100x100pixels square, which was better than circular selections. How can I make the square selections, as I had been doing weeks ago? Thank you. RE: elliptical select changed - Ofnuts - 06-02-2025 If you want a square selection you use rectangle select? Yes, but It seemed easier to use elliptical select, expand from center, fixed size 100x100, while holding down the shift key as I mouse clicked...then move cursor over the target center, and then 'crop to selection' produced a 100x100 square. Now, I've changed something, or an upgrade was made, that changed. I think I can click 1 of the 4 areas around the circle and make the selection square(adding those 4 corner area pixels). Thank you. Is it easier than using the rectangular select ? Surely it works the same way. With a fixed size (100x100) set that gives the selection, or am I missing something. You can switch between fixed size and aspect ratio as well. If you have "Expand from centre" on then use the side box(es) of the selection for a click-n-drag resize. Ellipse select and rectangle select are essentially the same tool. The only difference is that the ellipse one creates the ellipse/circle that fits the rectangle/square. And in recent Gimp (since 2.10 I think), the crop tool can also apply to the selected layer only, also has an "expand from center" option, and can also enforce a fixed aspect ratio, so that's even less clicking. |
