Help on doing text effect - lunymarcus - 06-24-2025 ![]() ![]() Recreating a logo a friend of mine made many years ago. Don't know how to get a hold of my friend anymore. As you can see, I got almost perfect match of font, outline and shadow. But I can't figure out how to do the LF background. I'm a graphic noob, so I'm actually impressed with myself that I got this far on my own. Any help or suggestions be appreciated. TIA RE: Help on doing text effect - Ofnuts - 06-25-2025 * Create the L and F on separate text layers (the positions are unimportant at that point) * Extract the path of each layer (Layer > Text to path) * Hide the text layers * In the Paths list make the F and L paths visible * Select the F path in the Paths list * Use the Flip tool in Transform: Path mode (top row of icons in the options) to flip the path horizontally * Use the Move tool in Transform: Path mode to move the two paths where needed. Maybe use a guide to have they perfectly aligned * You can merge them into a single path using Merge visible paths * Edit > Stroke path on a new layer, and insert that layer in the stack. RE: Help on doing text effect - rich2005 - 06-25-2025 I did do a load of screenshots but Ofnuts describes the procedure anyway. I start from the bottom - the grey background and work up-over. The drop shadow is default Gimp. There is a brighter spot just under the flipped F - I used the dodge tool for that 50 % opacity fuzzy brush, one click. FWIW the Gimp 3 xcf attached. RE: Help on doing text effect - lunymarcus - 06-25-2025 Thanks, a lot all. If you look at my original post, it shows what I got done with your help. I'm very happy with the results. I might play with it more, but I like what I got. Again, thank you very much. |
