GIMP 3.04 opens with window extending below the taskbar on Windows 11 - SteveH - 07-01-2025 After installing GIMP 3.04 on Windows 11 Home 24H2 26100.4351, GIMP opens with the GIMP window extending below the taskbar and/or extending above the top of the screen. Also, when using View > Zoom > Fit Image in Window, the GIMP window changes to extending below the taskbar. Apparently there is a bug in Edit > Preferences > Interface > Windows Management > Save windows position on exit. This is on 2 computers. Others have reported the bug: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/14325 My solution with 2.10.38 already installed

Apparently there is a bug in Edit > Preferences > Interface > Windows Management > Save windows position on exit. If I open GIMP 2.10.38 where Edit > Preferences > Interface > Windows Management > Save window positions on exit = check, then close GIMP 2.10.38, and then open GIMP 3.04, it opens with the GIMP window extending below the taskbar again. If I open GIMP 2.10.38 where Edit > Preferences > Interface > Windows Management > Save window positions on exit = uncheck, then close GIMP 2.10.38, and then open GIMP 3.04, it opens with everything positioned correctly. This suggests to me, that GIMP 3.04 is having a problem with Windows 11 storing the previous GIMP window positions whether that is from 2.10.38 or 3.04 with Edit > Preferences > Interface > Windows Management > Save window positions on exit = check. RE: GIMP 3.04 opens with window extending below the taskbar on Windows 11 - rich2005 - 07-03-2025 Just as a note: First run of Gimp, when there is no Gimp 3 User profile (as with a new install) does try and migrate settings from a previous version. There is a bug report here about Gimp 2.10 / 3.0.4 Not really about window size but that might come into it. https://github.com/GNOME/gimp/commit/204ddaae56ffdd2425571455629709a47fe4a800 Always better to disable your old Gimp User profile - rename or move to another folder for a new Gimp 3 install. No, for Windows you can easily have both Gimp 2.10 and Gimp 3.0 Even if you un-install Gimp 2.10 the User profile remains and this is what migrates to Gimp 3.0 So the folder to disable / delete is C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10 Saving settings: You should be able to fix the way Gimp starts up, a little more than you have already done, go through the 3 sections Tool Options / Window Management / Input Devices - uncheck the save on exit / click on "Save xxxx Now" for each. Of course there might be other Windows 11 factors involved, all those terrible snapping options maybe, but for Gimp all the settings are held in the file sessionrc in your User profile. It is a text file, attached is one from a Win11 (VM) compare it with your version. You are not getting very far here so time to file a bug report to the devs. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues RE: GIMP 3.04 opens with window extending below the taskbar on Windows 11 - SteveH - 07-04-2025 (Yesterday, 07:46 AM)rich2005 Wrote:(07-03-2025, 09:22 PM)SteveH Wrote: So you are saying that it is best not to have both 2.10.38 and 3.04 installed? The same bug has already been reported, but with far less detail. I would file a bug report if I did not have to create yet another on-line account. Someone else can take the contents of my post and do it. In my original post, 9. Yes, and I said do the same for all three Tool Options / Window Management / Input Devices Although more probably some Windows 11 setting. Try putting that sessionrc file in your Gimp User Profile and see if you get a smaller Gimp window. It cant do any harm, delete the file and Gimp makes a new default when started. |
