Switching off a drop-list of files - rafael_abelyar - 07-08-2025
How I can prevent appearing drop-list of files when saving or exporting? That annoys much.

What do you call "drop lists"?
And of the file is opened from disk, you can re-export over the loaded file without a file selector File > Save (loaded from XCF) or File > Overwrite (imported from some other image type).

If you mean the file selection in the file save/export dialog it has always been there and is standard practice in all apps.
You are shown the existing files so that you can pick a name that doesn't clash with an existing one (or that follows a naming convention). And yes, clicking on any of the existing files sets the name, but you can further edit this (for instance add a -2...).
And you don't get the list when Gimp knows that you are re-saving/exporting to disk (ie, overwriting the file you loaded the image from).

You can filter the files in a folder (1) by graphics file type (2) and that might limit the list when opening. The same with exporting (3).

...of course, if you only ever use one file-type then you need to consider your filing system and use sub-folders. There is a facility in Gimp for this, the icon top right in the Save / Export dialogue is for making a new folder.

The problem is this list opens all over the screen and "jumps" before cursor and by doing so it closes the space of button to export or save. This behavior was not appearing in earlier

Thank you for your attempt to resolve the issue, but your way is even longer that pressing "Escape" every time. Earlier I just typed file name for my file and then pressed "Export" and no drop-lists closed the view all over the screen. I ever had had a numerous files in save folder, so increasing the number of files cannot be the cause.

I frequently do exactly that and either type in the file name or keep that and type in a new extension.
....however...nothing has changed between Gimp 2.10 and 3.0

Then something opened itself in newer environment obviously, because I never experienced the behavior which occurs approx. on 1:00-1:05 of my video. I just had been typing a name and no drop-down list had been appearing, just a ordinary list of files which had not confuse me.

What you show in the video is the entry filed also acting as a filter. So when you have a completely empty name it matches all the files, but as soon as you enter a few characters, the matching list is drastically reduced. And, by the way, the this field also does name completion, so if you hit [tab] in the middle of a name, it completes up to the common part of all the matching names.
And before you ask, I have checked this on 2.10 too... so it's not "new" AFAIK.
