Dragging and dropping images to GIMP cause crash. Similar topics have been opened before, but I don't know what the latest situation is.

Every now and then I see someone showing crashes, so I try to do the same things, and it doesn't happen to me.
Then I wonder, do I have a strange computer? Then I look at my version of Gimp GIT 3.1.3 AppImage on antiX Linux X11... oh, yes, it's strange.

Yeah, well that is the case for most users, however it does not help the OP.

Can you post details of the firefox_screenshot....something file.
On your desktop ? Is it a file or a link to a file ?
What is the image format ?
What is the full file name ? Does it contain any accented characters ?
Can you attach the actual file ?

Have you tried dragging the image to the GIMP logo - which is described as the drag-and-drop area in Edit/Preferences/Interface/Toolbox? That's the area just above the toolbox in the display you posted above. I do agree though that it shouldn't cause a program crash and that this should be reported, if it hasn't been reported already.

I failed at drag and drop.GIMP always crashes
My GIMP version is 3.0.4 on windows 10 and I have been dragging just simple png file. I noticed if I drag and drop a jpg file format GIMP successfully loads the file. My problem is
about png files.
I tried to register to GIMP tracker but I couldn't register for some reason even with my github account doesn't accept registration so I couldn't report the issue but I searched issues and I found some similar closed issues. I also downloaded 3.1.2 the development version and problem exists. So if someone can confirm and report the issue I will be happy.

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/12542 this issue and all other related issues are closed but the problem is still persist in dev version. I think there should be a new ticket.
