Help with PNG second layer? - allin424 - 09-05-2025 I am fairly new and basic to GIMP, I have used SVG files in the past and cut out vinly signs and graphics with GIMP. I have a PNG file that I paid for from a digital artist. I uploaded the file using upload as layers and changed the embedded sRGB IEC61966-2.1 to the one GIMP suggested. I selected all and added the alpha channel. From here, I thought I would be able to size the image, duplicate and crop the two new images, save and export them to my sublimation printer. Behind the image is a transparent layer and when I move the main image- it only moves within the transparent layer. When I try to delete the checkered layer- the main image deletes. [attachment=13866] [attachment=13865] I was able to crop the image to selection, as shown but you can see the layer still and my image will "disappear" if I move it off the page. [attachment=13864] Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have 30 more of these images to print. If you need any more info, just let me know. Thanks, Alli RE: Help with PNG second layer? - Ofnuts - 09-05-2025 Your screenshots don't show an important dialog, the Tool options. If you lost it, restore it see: Getting the Tool options back, once for all. There is no "transparent layer". The layers list shows a single layer, which is the one you loaded. In one of the screenshots, it is made invisible perhaps because you clicked the eye icon [attachment=13867]
The checkerboard pattern is not a layer, it is the "canvas", more or less the table on which you work, and that you see where layers are transparent and there is nothing to show. The canvas act as a "porthole" over the layer and delimits the final image (when you export, the final image is what you see in the canvas). [attachment=13868]
So what you are showing is a layer that is shifted partially off the canvas. If you want to add more space on the canvas use Image > Canvas size. You can also enlarge the canvas so that the whole layer becomes visible again with Image > Fit canvas to layers. To crop the layer (and the image...), the best tool is the crop tool which I suggest you use with the following options: [attachment=13869]
RE: Help with PNG second layer? - allin424 - 09-05-2025 Thank you so much. I did lose the "tool option". I will follow that thead, restore it and try what you said about enlarging the canvas and let you know. Thanks again. |
