ora format... it really works? - mrkid - 09-17-2025 Hi! I was trying to open a xcf in Krita to make some brush work there. I found is not possible with new Gimp versions, so i found somewhere the suggest to use . ORA format. I exported to it, but Krita opened the layers cropped or misplaced. I opened with Gimp with the same result. So, i conclude that ora is a faulty export format, at least there is something im missing. Any experience or comment about exchange formats? There are problems with Gimp 3.0.4 and the open raster format (ora) which is just a zipped up set of png layers. example see: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/14168 but I think fixed with Gimp 3.1.4 (maybe) You can use tiff format, that will export layers, but I find if you add say a Krita vector layer, even if converted to a paint layer it is not rendered by Gimp. You could try .psd format, that is a bit more tolerant, but that will not solve your problem of Krita cropping layers. The same as a Gimp -> Layer -> Crop layer to content. In Krita I can see no way of setting a layer to canvas size. It is a Krita problem. There might be work-arounds. In Gimp export a "dummy" layer with some delete-able boundry marks might work, I will try that (perhaps tomorrow) ![]() [attachment=13909] RE: ora format... it really works? - rich2005 - 09-17-2025 It all depends what your work in Krita entails. You can stretch a layer in Krita by painting outside the canvas. (I suppose similar to the Gimp 3 Expand Layer option in the paint tools) [attachment=13910] That is imported back into Gimp (using psd format) with the increased layer size. You can trim with a layer to canvas size. [attachment=13911] definitely packing in for the day now. RE: ora format... it really works? - mrkid - 09-17-2025 Thanks Rich your time to explain! To be able to make some easy inter-change between gimp and krita sound nice, hope in some future it become easy. I will try the Tiff option, with flattened fx. |
