Gimp 3.0.4 doesn't have the old fonts - GMP - 10-02-2025 Gimp 3.0.4 doesn't have the old fonts from a project I did 3 years ago. I want to use the same font DejaVu Sans oblique on my new project. After not being ab;e to use the old font in my new project, I loaded the old project and with the Text tool I selected the text with the font. I then changed the font with the text window on the right. I even changed back to the correct font and it's showing the wrong font. Here are the snips for the wrong font and the correct font https://onedrive.live.com/?id=%2Fpersonal%2Fc256e2dae26b22a5%2FDocuments%2FPublic%2FGIMP&view=0 I see that I still have Gimp 2.10 and I opened the old project and it's not correct either. So somehow the Fonts path must not be accurate. It's affecting both versions RE: Gimp 3.0.4 doesn't have the old fonts - rich2005 - 10-02-2025 If the font used in your old Gimp .xcf file no longer exists on your computer then the the font in the text layer is replaced by a system default font. Gimp does not keep anything other than the font name in the .xcf file. Go to https://sourceforge.net/projects/dejavu/files/dejavu/2.37/dejavu-fonts-ttf-2.37.zip/download A 5.5 MB zip archive Unzip and put the contents of the ttf folder in your Gimp fonts folder. C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\3.0\fonts Whatever you do keep your old file safe and work with a backup. Open the backup and see if the text layer(s) are OK RE: Gimp 3.0.4 doesn't have the old fonts - GMP - 10-02-2025 I have multiple copies of the good file as a backup. I did everything exactly like you said: I closed Gimp 3.0, put the Tif fonts which were all named dejaVu in the Gimp 3.0 fonts folder. And after that I'm still having the same problems with the wrong system font being used.. I see that Gimp 2.10 fonts don't have the Deja Vu fonts in it's folder user Users. i just copied the fonts there too and Gimp 2.10 is still showing the wrong fonts. Although when I first open the good old file, initially it always shows the correct font in 3.0 and 2.1. maybe it's a Registry fix RE: Gimp 3.0.4 doesn't have the old fonts - rich2005 - 10-02-2025 (10-02-2025, 04:44 PM)GMP Wrote: I have multiple copies of the good file as a backup. Somewhere in the past you will have installed DejaVu fonts into Windows Version-whatever. It might be the font family name has changed but providing the Text layer is there as a Text layer it is possible to change it. Do the DejaVu fonts show in the fonts dock ? Not sure what Windows 11 uses these days as the system default, used to be Tahoma (1) With text tool active select DevaVu in the fonts dock to change the font (2) [attachment=13939] RE: Gimp 3.0.4 doesn't have the old fonts - GMP - 10-02-2025 Yes it's in the Fonts block. Check out these pics Here are the snips for the wrong font and the correct font https://onedrive.live.com/?id=%2Fpersona...IMP&view=0 You can see both have the DejaVu in the font box, but one is the wrong font In your example DejaVu looks quite different from mine showing the correct font. Yours shows a slight italic not the fancy script like mine is. Actually, this computer is Win 10, sorry I got mixed up with my other computer. here's my old deja vu font below. Is that different frm yours? RE: Gimp 3.0.4 doesn't have the old fonts - rich2005 - 10-02-2025 This the closest I can see in the DejaVu fonts. DejaVuSansCondensed-BoldOblique.ttf [attachment=13942] Sorry - not going to sign into anything Microsoft https://onedrive.live.com/?id=%2Fpersonal%2Fc256e2dae26b22a5%2FDocuments%2FPublic%2FGIMP&view=0 RE: Gimp 3.0.4 doesn't have the old fonts - GMP - 10-02-2025 That's ok about MS, my initial snips were too large. I made it smaller this time. The DejaVu font is on the Lessons from the heart. I have a feeling that's not a true Gimp font. What do you think? What do you think? Not a DejaVu font. Is it a font layer ? If It is might have started life as dejavu and then the characters replaced (the on canvas editor) rather than from the font tool options. A quick-sh search, plenty similar but most probably this: https://www.whatfontis.com/FF_Signature-Regular.font?text=LcanrTh [attachment=13947] RE: Gimp 3.0.4 doesn't have the old fonts - GMP - 10-04-2025 Thanks Rich, you're the best as usual. The wrong font I used was on a different computer that is not working and the HD won't boot. But I do have image files of it, that have the fonts. I'm curious, do you know what folder those other fonts could have been in? Does Gimp look to other folders besides that one under users? Really you would need your old Gimp installtion. Any path that is in Edit -> Preferences -> Folders -> Fonts By default just the two for Gimp 2.10 replace 3.0 with 2.10 C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\3.0\fonts and if you installed for all users (Gimp 3 installer now defaults to a User only location) C:\Program Files\GIMP 3\share\gimp\3.0\fonts Normally nothing in there. plus All the fonts installed in Windows - C:\Windows\Fonts ...but can also use for you only: C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Fonts EDIT: This just a guess, what I think happened in the past [attachment=13955] (1) Make some text, and it correctly shows in the tool options and in the canvas editor (2) Use the canvas editor to select text and change the font. The original font name still shows (3) Selecting the changed text will show the font name. Note the tool options still shows the original font. To change all the text in a text layer always better to use the tool options. |
