shift Q cursor clarity - JohnSellers - 10-12-2025 In the new GIMP 3.0.6 the shift Q hard round brush cursor is almost invisible. What can I do to make it visible enough to see well? Any fix that works would do fine, but also there is a refinement that would help a great deal. I found that when separating transparent background from object, my visualizing the positional edge and of the perfectly round cursor of the right diameter increased my ability to judge the w/b painting clicks with treat imp;rovment. The flaw in the display is that the image I am working from is anti-aliased and the stair stepped brush perimeter is badly mismatched because the perimeter of the circle should be a smooth circle rather than a stair step approximation in order to exactly judge the placing of the paint. In my current application of the paint, I have adjusted the parameters so that the exact tangent of the paint brush circle belongs exactly at the visualized edge conceptually defined by the anti-aliased pixels. If I had a smooth circular tagent parameter of the brush displayed when I work, I could place the brush so well that it would give me an absolutely perfect result. I hardly use the quickmask these days (especially to extract stuff) because layers masks work better. Same principle, but if you later find that you made a small mistake, you can just amend the mask. And if you need a selection you can obtain it from the layer using Alpha to selection. The only way to have an absolutely perfect result on anti-aliasing pixels in CGI is to paint in Color erase mode with the color of the background. Otherwise you either your edge pixels contain a bit of the former color (and you get a halo) or you have clipped too much. And this can be done easily with a proper selection. On photos edges are murkier and you can just aim for "adequate". And of course on photos things a lot murkier anyway, you can only aim for "looks good enough". RE: shift Q cursor clarity - rich2005 - 10-13-2025 Might / might not work on your installation: Try changing the color / opacity of the mask.
