Upgrade 3.0.6 - J-C R 45 - 10-28-2025

Upgraded Gimp 3.0.4 to Gimp 3.0.6.
Gimp 3.0.6 is crashing when initialising documents.
Uninstalled & reinstalled many times, removed all Gimp from PC
still crashing.
Reinstalled Gimp 3.0.4 and working perfectly.
Any recommendation.
Thankyou

Quote:...Gimp 3.0.6 is crashing when initialising documents.

Does that mean that Gimp opens showing the interface but the crashes when opening an image ?

It is said many times that reinstalling at the drop-of-a-hat does not prove anything. All your settings are held in your Gimp User profile C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\3.0 which keeps existing settings.

The first thing to try is rename that folder as a backup. Start Gimp which makes a new default version, and see if the fault still occurs.

As a possibility, I have seen a comment about third-party GEGL filters causing a crash with Gimp 3.0.6. Do you have any of those installed ?

Thankyou for your reply.
Followed your instructions and removed GEGL-GImp-Plugin_Old_Photo_Antique-main.
Upgraded to gimp 3.0.6 and Gimp crashed at the same place, see attached image.
If no solutions I can wait for the next upgrade, gimp 3.0.4 working perfectly.

RE: Upgrade 3.0.6 - denzjos - 10-29-2025

I've noticed that GIMP 3.0.6-1 takes a moment to load the "documents" file. I think on this moment GIMP is searching for the most recently opened files in "documents." After unchecking this option, GIMP seems to process the "documents" file more quickly. Perhaps there's a problem with incorrect or missing files that gimp is trying to find.
