Layer Problems in 3.0.6 - NuV01aR! - 01-05-2026

I am attempting to use the Layer facility.
I am using the relevant examples in the manual under Chapter 8 of the manual, specifically Figs. 8.2 to 8.4.
The attachment shows my attempt on the lhs to emulate the manual - but I don't get the same results.
Any suggestions?

Did you add an alpha layer (transparency) to the red layer? I suspect that you didn't and therefore when you select the rectangle and then do Edit/Clear the area deleted gets filled with the background colour. With the red layer selected you need to go to Layer/Transparency/Add Alpha Channel before clearing the selection.
