can I do these Photoshop actions in GIMP 3.0.4? - drkenrich - 03-10-2026

I've used Adobe CS6 full suite since it came out. Now I'm old and do very little. For what little I do now, I think GIMP will work for me.

However, there are two PS processes I still need. Hopefully, one of you can tell me how GIMP can do them.
1.  I take hundreds of photos when I travel. I use PS Photomerge to combine multiple close overlapping shots to create a single large image.
2. I have a script that takes the file name and overlays it on the lower portion of the image so it's a visible title as it's run through slideshows.

I'd love to transition to GIMP if it can do these two things.

Prepare to be disappointed. Gimp 3 is still very new (in Gimp development terms) and there are not many scripts and plugins for it.  There were in the past plugins for both requirements, but nothing updated as yet.

(1) PS Photomerge apparently is a panorama stitcher.
My favourite at the moment is Xpano, mainly because it is very easy to use.
There is a windows version in M$Store  https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9pgq5x33l0sc  or do a search.

An alternative is the excellent AutoPano https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Autopano-Giga-4-4-2-now-free-and-legal-to-use

(2) Do you scale your photos for slideshows ? Something like XnViewMP will batch scale and add a text title (as file name)
Otherwise not a big deal with Gimp 3 but not automatic, especially since a sensible text size depends on image size. A little perspective post processing and added some text.
