How do I color Bevel Text? - Black Ball - 03-17-2026

Can someone tell me how to color bevel text? Everytime I use bevel in filter and then curves, it’s a lot more harder to get something satisfactory than using Chrome. Below are two links to
Pinterest for what im trying to to create.

You can try the "old" way using the color curves and dragging the value curve in a zig-zag.

The GEGL bevel is not too bad but to apply effects using Gimp 3.2 looks like you have to rasterize it (lose the text property)

Start off with text in a light blue with a touch of grey colour.
Lose the text property.
Add a bevel
Apply the color curve (with merge effect on)
Use Colorize for some other colour.

Just a note that that happened anyway in GIMP 3.0. The main difference is that you have to explictly agree to rasterize it, rather than be surprised when you merge a filter and then lose the text information. Smile

Thanks. This mostly worked, however, I couldn't find rasterize under layers

Or, alpha to select your bevelled text and change the hue.

Maybe you see 'Revert Rasterise' . That's because you have already rasterise the text.

Still don't see any rasterise effect in layers. I can only assume my options switch it out for something else? I also have another question. When it comes to gradients, how can I get it to look better? Does it come down to how I use the curves?

It's because you have not typed (used) a text in Gimp, it's an image of a text you use. Then 'rasterise' is not visible (normal).

There is an explanation of rasterize layers back in post #3

Using color curves - not a good result using that gradient.  Other ways for a bevel.  There is the bevel in Filters -> Generic -> Text Styling which will work, It has some extra options like inner glow.

Then the gimp_gmic_qt plugin http://www.gmic.eu  Maybe a bit drastic but it is different. This the Illuminate 2D
