Gimplensfun for 2.10 crashes during launch of Gimp - i5963c - 07-09-2018

Hello,
Since I performed the upgrade to Gimp 2.10 (Win10, 64bit), I'm no longer able to apply lens corrections with the Lensfun plugin. It worked perfectly with the various 2.8 versions.
As soon as the gimplensfun plugin is installed, it's even no longer possible to launch Gimp, the application throws an error message during the launch process ('The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application').
I'm aware that (a long time ago) there was also a problem with gimplensfun for Windows with the Gimp 2.8 version. The solution for that problem was to install a special version of libstdc++-6.dll, but that solution doesn't solve the issue with the 2.10 release of Gimp.
Lens correction is quite important in my use cases since I do a lot of architecture photography. It strikes me that I can't find anything on the internet about this issue. It's hard to believe that I would be the only person who uses this plugin, and who encounters this problem since the 2.10 version.
PS: I've tried with all 2.10 versions (initial release, 2.10.2 and recently 2.10.4) and the issue still persists. I've also tried already clean installs, but it doesn't help.
Any suggestions or solutions are highly appreciated.

Hate to be beat but...Tried all sorts without any success, that gimp-lensfun plugin is old. Although the installer is 2015, the code goes back 5 -6 years. Keep running into a MSVC++ runtime error in Windows, 32 bit issues. I can get it running in linux.

That might not be too far from the truth. The plugin looks largely abandoned, users moving on to applications such as Rawtherapee which is able to apply lens corrections.

If you are not taking RAW photos and need gimplensfun to adjust jpegs then I would keep that copy of Gimp 2.8 around since at least it is working. You can install Gimp 2.10 along-side Gimp 2.8, various ways depending what you have, but it is a pain. Want Gimp 2.10? Use Partha's version http://www.partha.com Installs to a different folder than Gimp 2.8 This has the nufraw plugin which uses lensfun for corrections but only for RAW images. screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/wm8NynP.jpg

The only other way I came across is using command line ImageMagick, see https://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/lens/ Not straight forward but once the settings for your camera are established could be used to quickly pre-process before using Gimp. Ask questions here: https://www.imagemagick.org/discourse-server Users section, they are very helpful.

Rawtherapee (and possibly others) can work on JPEG, and can do lens distortion correction using the lensfun DB or Adobe LCP profiles.
Although Gimp is still hard to beat for effects and local edits, it is still quite lacking in the photo-processing department, even on JPEG, compared to the demosaicing apps.
