Heal selection - denzjos - 09-05-2018

Since a few weeks I use GIMP 2.10.4 and now 2.10.6. I've consulting many sites and forums concerning the plugin Resythesizer, this for using the plugin 'heal selection'. I found a youtube movie to do this : 'GIMP 2.10 Tutorial: Resynthesizer is Better Than Photoshop's Content Aware Fill'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J61ExvqNcBQ. After installing, Gimp 2.10.6 (64) start up without errors and all the menu items are found in GIMP. When I make a selection and use the 'heal selection' plugin, I get following error :  The texture source is empty. Does any selection include non-transparent pixels?. The heal selection is not done. What's wrong? Suggestions ? Thanks in advance!

welcome to gimp-forum.net

What is missing from your screenshot are the layers.

Best guess, you are applying heal-selection to an area of transparency in a layer over the source.

Don't. Apply the plugin to the actual area.

edit:
And for users who do not have resynthesizer installed see: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Resynthesizer-heal-selection-plugins-for-Windows which includes a video on installation and usage.

Is the active layer the one you think?

Thanks for the answer. The error occure when I use one layer (as in the example). The error occure also on other pictures. If I draw the selection within the layer (not the corner), I get the same error. Gimp is installed on my 'D' drive and is working fine with all other plugins I've installed (a few photoshop .8bf also). The shellout NIK filters, Xnview, easyHDR3 (registered) etc. work without errors.

Did you have a Partha's Gimp 2.10 installed? (shellout NIK comes with that) Did you get Gimp 2.10.6 from gmip.org?

Where did you get the resynthesizer.exe / resynthesizer-gui.exe files? Where they carried over from the old Gimp 2.8 installation?

RE: Heal selection - denzjos - 09-05-2018

Gimp 2.10.6 is installed over Gimp 2.10.4. Gimp is downloaded from gimp.org. Concerning resynthesizer.exe, it was a new installation : copy the files in the Gimp plugins folder (just like told in the youtube movie). I don't know what Partha's Gimp mean. I just put the file links in the ShellOut.py file and placed the ShellOut.py file in the right folder. All these links work fine.(exept HDR but I know what the problem is with this program). My OS is windows 10.

RE: Heal selection - rich2005 - 09-05-2018

I can not complain about the resynthesizer files, they are the zip I posted some time ago for Windows users. I do know that they work.

What is wrong with the video is where they go. Putting the files in the main Gimp folder structure is terrible advice. The place for plugins is your Gimp 2.10 profile.

They should go in C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins

If you can extract the files from your D: drive gimp installation, I would do that, then put only what is required resynthesizer.exe resynthesizer-gui.exe plugin-heal-selection.py in your Gimp profile. Do not just duplicate plugins, a sure way to get errors.

Not difficult with Gimp 2.10.6 All system plugins are now in folders. If it is not in a folder delete it.

Put your plugins in your Gimp profile plugins folder

Does it work, does here about 5 minutes ago at time of writing.

Can not really give more advice,

Quote:I don't know what Partha's Gimp mean

It is a alternative to the Gimp 2.10 from gimp.org Comes with provision for those NIK plugins and some others. Version Gimp 2.10.4 64 bit at the moment see: http://www.partha.com for details.

RE: Heal selection - denzjos - 09-05-2018

I've deleted the synthesizer plugins from the plugin folder in drive 'd' and put them in C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins. I get the same errors. Al the files folders for gimp are present in C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\, but mostly empty. Also the plugin folder is empty, so I've put the synthesizer files there (.exe and .py files). I use the 'D' drive instead of the 'C' drive because the 'C' is a small SSD drive. I've used the most things that are in Gimp 2.10.6 and they work fine on the 'D' drive. I've seen when I use Shellout that this program use the 'C' drive (as temporary file stockage I think), but that is not a problem for me.

RE: Heal selection - rich2005 - 09-05-2018

I hope you replaced 'your-name' in ...\Users\your-name\AppData\... with the correct path Wink

Providing the correct paths are in the Gimp Preferences Gimp in D: should work

Can you post a screenshot of Edit -> Preferences -> Folders -> Plug-ins as shown here.

RE: Heal selection - denzjos - 09-05-2018

I placed the plugins in my user folder but I've forgotten to erase teh plugins on the 'D' drive. So I' erased the synthesizer files on the 'D' drive and the plugins are now on the 'C' drive in my user folder. After starting up Gimp 2.10.6, the Resythesizer are not in the Gimp menu's. So that is not the right solution. I look further this evening for a sollution.
Thanks for the reply.
