New Gimper question on texture layer - StylinLP38 - 09-19-2018

Hi, after watching 50 youtube video's and attempting to read the manual I am stuck on how to fill my layer with a texture. I am trying to create a map for my online D&D game on Fantasy Grounds and I got stuck.

I downloaded a Farmfield texture from Dundjinni and added it to its own layer. Then used the "Scale" tool to make it 1600x1600 pixels. Now it covers about 2/3rd of my image. How do I copy this texture to fill in the rest of the layer? I tried using the "Clone" tool but all it did was create a new weird layer that I have no idea what to do with.

Help is much appreciated!

Open up the Dundjinni texture and export it as a .pat file in you patterns folder.  Actually, I think jpg, png, or any format would work.  Then the pattern will show up in your patterns tab, and you can simple fill any image layer with that pattern.

1. Copy the pattern layer (Ctrl-C). It will show up as the first item in the Patterns dialogue - called the Cllipboard Image. The Patterns dialogue is next to the Brushes dialogue.

2. Switch to the layer you want to fill.

3. Select the Bucket Fill tool. In the Tool Options, set the Fill Type to Pattern. Then select the first pattern - Clipboard Image.

4. Click on the layer you want to fill.

Some things to watch:
1. The max size for a pattern is 1024. 1600 will get clipped.

2. The pattern must be seamless or there will be very visible seams where the joins are. There are various ways to make seamless patterns. One is Filters > Map > Tile Seamless.

"This operation has no edible properties." Thanks for showing me the best way to create an entire layer of a texture. But that last step to create a seemless Pattern did not work

Sorry, bad description by me. Make the pattern seamless before copying to the pattern dialogue.
