Entire layer deletes and not selected area - vallyval - 10-28-2018

I use the lasso tool to select the area I want to cut out. command+x and then the entire layer is deleted.
any ideas on how to get just what I want to cut out?

That yellow dotted lined box is permanently surrounding the entire image- is that the problem? if so, how do I get rid of it? I've been editing other images no problems. so this just started happening and I have no clue what is different now.

Did you press Enter to finalise the selection?

The "yellow dotted lined box" marks the layer boundaries. Very useful when your layers are smaller than the canvas.

Otherwise, same as Blighty. In 2.10 you have to strike Enter or double-click to "commit" the selection.
