Rotate using the measure tool - rich2005 - 11-26-2018

There are all sorts of ways to rotate layers in Gimp. In Gimp 2.10.6 (and later) the measure tool can be used.

Is it any better than other tools, not really, just an alternative but worth knowing about.

This video demo: 2 and a half minutes shows the tool in action.

Hi rich2005, I tried to reproduce the steps of the video but in my window Toll Options there is no option, it is empty.  Confused

I have a selected area, the measure tool selected and at 45º, but without the option to rotate it.

I do not understand if I'm missing something or if my version of Gimp would be the problem (Portable 2.10.1 Samj)  Huh

You do need Gimp 2.10.6 or later. If you want to stick with a samj portable then

https://samjcreations.blogspot.com/2018/08/gimp-2106-portable-32-bits-et-64-bits.html Gimp 2.10.6

or the most recent https://samjcreations.blogspot.com/2019/03/compilations-du-17-mars-2019-gmic-gimp.html  Gimp 2.10.9 a just-before-Gimp 2.10.10 compilation.

The rotate using the measure tool is worth knowing about but the more traditional rotate in backward mode is just as good.

Hmmm, okay then.  Blush
I have tried other versions of portable Samj (2.10.2 and 2.10.9), but very unstable, with no conditions of use.  Sad
I'll continue with version 2.10.1 and wait until a better version comes up.

Rich2005 thank you very much!  Wink

RE: Rotate using the measure tool - rich2005 - 04-02-2019

For anyone having problems with the new measure tool straighten function or not keen on Rotate (corrective - backward) mode, there are scripts and plugins to aid straightening.

I use(d) the attached script "autorotate.scm" for many years.

Ofnuts has a similar in his plugins collection. https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-tools/files/scripts/ofn-layer-straightener.zip/download

Easy to use, draw a path, apply the plugin.

The usual, unzip put the autorotate.scm in the user scripts folder
