Transparent Background - DIYMarketing - 01-21-2019

Hey guys,

I have a logo that I am trying to make the background transparent. However, I am struggling because there is a few white/ light colored portions contained in the logo. Every time I use fuzzy select it does not select these parts of the logo and makes it transparent along with the background. I have tried using the lasso tool to touch these sections up, but they are individual sections so I cannot select the whole image at once. Would you suggest making individual layers for these parts and then incorporating them back into the image after I have made the background transparent? Thanks in advance for the help, I am open to any and all suggestions!

Thank you,

A marketing intern

PM me if you need to see the logo to make better sense of what I am trying to accomplish.

In the fuzzy select tool options, there is a threshold setting, The default value is 15 increase the value and select until the faint background marks are no longer selected. The same holds true for other select tools such as color select.

Edit: Apologies you want to keep the faint parts, reduce the threshold value and select until they remain.

screenshots, note the select tool modes, you can change mode to add/subtract from an existing selection. Remember to to reset to the default replace when complete. https://i.imgur.com/KB2tCVT.jpg

Another way is use a quickmask to paint in/out a selection. https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-image-window-qmask-button.html Select -> Toggle Quickmask With it on, White will paint out a selection and Black will add a selection.

Thanks a lot! I believe I have accomplished what I set out to, using the advice you provided about the threshold setting in the fuzzy tool. Greatly appreciated!
