Why does my floating layer always disappear upon anchoring? - Bisonfan95 - 02-08-2019

Whenever I make I selection, then Float it and edit it, if I press enter to acknowledge de changes or press the "Anchor Layer" Button the Layer just disappears. Is it a bug?

When you have a floating layer there are 2 options:

1) Anchor it - it is then merged with the active layer.

2) Right click on the floating layer and select "To new layer"

When I transform it to a new layer it works just fine, then I just merge it manually with the layer from which I took the selection, but shouldn't it be quicker just anchoring it? If the answer is yes, yhe problem I have is that whenever I choose to anchor it the layer disappears without a trace. Thank you for taking the time to answer.

Many editing options are unavailable while you have a floating layer. I usually handle it as soon as possible.

Anchor works well if you copy from one layer and want to paste into another. Or copy from one image and paste into another. ie without editing.

If you want to edit the contents of the floating layer: use the "To new layer" option and do your editing. Then, if required, you can use "Merge Down". But very often the merge down is not necessary, just keep the new layer as a separate layer.
