HOWTO: Make folds/creases at line edges ? - vmars316 - 06-07-2019

Hello & Thanks ,
Windows 10 x64 :

Plz , See attched image .
Image of cloth has two colors , brownish & white .
I would like to create a fold or crease effect on color borders .
Looking for a sort of 3d effect
so it looks like there are (folds , creases , indents)
at color borders .

Thanks

Rather than doing detailed for results that you don't like, I think it would be better to provide a sample of different methods. Pick one, then details of how to do it can be provided.

I'll kick of with 2. Both quickly done rather than neat. One using bump map; the other using edge detect and bevel. Let's see what others come up with.

Thanks Blighty

Bump is pretty cool ,
I can see a use for it down the road .

What I am hoping for now is to make the darker areas indented .
More like wrinkles or creases in an un-ironed shirt .

Thanks

Perhaps another way to look at it is to make all the white areas into bumps .

Thanks

Here is your crumpled foil image bump mapped to itself.

The same crumpled foil image can be used to bump map a T shirt.

Wow!!! That t-shirt is exactly what I am looking for .
Thank you very much !

Now how can I reproduce that effect ?
Thanks

1)
Create the T shirt layer. The T shirt must have a transparent background.

2)
Create the Bump Layer. I used the crumpled image from your post #3
Note 1: This layer is best done in black, white and grays only
Note 2: This layer must be the same size as the T shirt layer. Rotate, scale, crop as required.

3)
Make the Bump layer invisible by turning off the eye next to layer
In the Layers Dialogue select the T shirt layer
Filters > Map > Bump Map
Use the Big Question Mark to select the Bump Layer
Set the Depth as required
OK

Hmm...
I think I have done everything
but my results don't show any Bumps.
What am I doing wrong ?
Thanks

From your image I can't tell what the problem is, so just a few things you can try.

In step 3, when you do Filters > Map > Bump Map, you get a preview. Does that show bumps? Have you correctly selected the Bump Layer with the big question mark as per the image I attached to step 3? Or try another image for the Bump Layer.

Is your bump layer the same size as your shirt layer?

Is your bump layer just black, white and gray? Is it sufficiently contrasty? If not, you can try Colors > Brightness-Contrast to increase the contrast.
