Can't open a file from a symbolic-linked folder - mcpent - 09-04-2019

Hi everybody,
I use GIMP since very early versions and I love it.

I have an issue between Gimp and the Linux File System (ext4).

In my home I have a folder symbolic-linked to an other folder outside the home. I have set the privilege as rw:rw:r and I'm the owner. When I open a file form that directory Gimp says that can't open it because it can't read it. If I open it with an other software like inkscape or gThumb for instance, it works just fine.

Anyone as any idea?

Thank you anyhow Smile
m.

A quick try and no problem here. Kubuntu 18.04 / Gimp 2.10.12 from the otto-kesselgulasch PPA.

Nothing special with permissions, link is on the left in home, folder is on right on a data partition. Gimp opens the contents from home ok.

Which linux are you using? Is Gimp a flatpak or snap? They are sandboxed which might be the problem, or an appimage.

The more info you give the better.

Thank you.
I'm on Ubuntu Budgie 19.04. Gimp is 2.10.12 Snap version.

I removed the snap version and install it from the repository. Now it works...

Great hint Smile

Thank you again,
