correct curved images of all kind - denzjos - 09-07-2019

When one make a photo or a copy from a book, mostely the photographed page is curved. This is also the case when one take photo from a bended poster or paper on a wall where the result is mostly a large flat s-formed image. An panorama photo that is taken by a camera can have also an s-curved hurizon. Is there a possibility in Gimp to correct such a disortions? One can use the filters/disort/bend curve, but that is not precise enough. I know there exist a photoshop plugin Altostorm panorama corrector that can do the job by creating on or two curves that can solve this problem but I can't find something like this in Gimp. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

This link is telling what it is all about :

Maybe there is a plugin of this kind for Gimp ?

Nothing even close to that demo. In fact nothing at all that is anywhere close to automatic.

Best I came up with (and I tried a few things yesterday) is the gmic interactive warp filter...but it is what it says, interactive although you can save the settings for use later. (I have a set-up for making gores for a globe)

Better than the photo but less than perfect.

Hopefully someone will come up with a better solution.

Rich2005, thank you for the tip, I give it a try. It takes me a lot further. One day I think the Gimp creators have a solution for this, developing it step by step.

The gmic warp plugin is very time consuming, but I found something in a forum : https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list/2013-March/msg00120.html . One mentioned there a link to some old plugin but the link is death. Is the plugin still available and for Gimp 20.10.12 (windows 10 / 64 bits) ?

It is one of RobA's old scripts: curve-bend-between-paths.scm You can get it from http://www.silent9.com/incoming/scripts/

About 20 down the list - the date is 2012-08-14

Goes in C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\scripts Find it in Filters -> Distorts -> Distort Correction between Paths

It uses the old Gimp curve-bend tool, not much in the way of how-to's. Two paths required. The script says, each path left to right & not more than 17 control points.

looks like this:

This did crash more times than it worked., very picky.

Thank you rich2005, I've used the plugin on a few images and it seems to work without problems.
