There is this tiny circle node making a part of my path curved, how do I get rid of it?

I would suggest getting a better understanding of paths.

A little background knowledge is always useful.

To answer your question directly, in the path tool, you Crl-Shift-Click anything to remove it.

Thanks. The only thing is it deleted the anchor entirely instead of turning it into a normal anchor, which is a filled circle not that ring one. Is it possible to convert it? Not a big deal if not but jw

I figured out if I move the circle instead of the attached squares I avoid it getting all bent out of shape. So in the end I just kept it there

From the link in my first post:

Close (Delete) a handle:
Design: Shift-Ctrl-Click on the handle
Edit: Shift-Click on the handle

In your diagram:
The nodes are circles.
The handles (tangent handles) are squares.

It is still a 'normal anchor' Click-drag on the path near the control point to pull out the handles

Really you need to separate using selections and paths. There is a place for selection to path, but not always the most appropriate way.

A little bit of recreation. You made a path from selection but one of the control points is 'out of position'

If you hold the shift key down and click-drag one of the handles, the other handle moves in unison as a tangent.

That will get you in a better place to move the control point to a better position. Finish off by again adjusting the handles.

For something like overlaying a circle with a path, all you really need are four control points. Draw in straight sides

Click and drag a side to open-out the handles then adjust to fit the shape. Do not be afraid of using guides.

All takes a bit of practice and initially a bit more time but in the end you get a better result.

You should really look at the links Blighty posted. The path is defined by anchors (circles) and tangents (squares). The path goes through the anchors, and the tangents determine how round things are. There are always tangents, but if they are positioned exactly on the anchor they have no effect (straight line out of the anchor). When you remove a tangent by Ctrl-Shift-Click, it is not really removed but positioned on the anchor. So where the anchor is you see a circle (the anchor) with a square on top of it (the tangent(s)).
