RE: gimp 2.10.14 - Ofnuts - 11-14-2019

Can't reproduce on my Linux. Is the text using a font that is no longer available? Are these image you edited recently with 2.10.12?

RE: gimp 2.10.14 - rich2005 - 11-14-2019

Well...tried with 3 .xcf images with text layers (made in a linux machine) then opened in a Gimp 2.10.14 / Win10 64bit VM and no problems, apart from linux fonts not available in the Windows machine.

You might give a bit more information, Win 7 / 10 32/64 bit. Number of images open. Made with Gimp 2.8 /10 + anything else you might consider relevant.

For a was-working / not-working-now type of problem try disabling your Gimp profile.
Rename C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP to ... Roaming\GIMP-backup Start Gimp and let it make a new default Gimp profile.

Sometimes incompatible settings are carried over from the previous version. (but unlikely for 2.10.12 to 2.10.14)

hi, sorry for the lack of info guys i run windows 10 64 , basically i have templates from 2.10.12 and all i did (before) was just load up the templates i want , edit text then save as tiff file with save layers box unticked edit a few text e.g age or name and with the same font used as before nothing has changed there and also have no more than nine images open, just printed a job on my large format printer and it printed like 200% i have done nothing different in this edition than i did in the last (working for me) edition, i am wondering if it is to do with tiff files as i have read the update notes and they have made some changes, hope this is enough info and thanks for taking the time to answer.

A quick reply before I pack in for the day.

I can certainly get strange results exporting from a multi-layer image containing text layers to a multi-layer tiff. No error messages but the 'text' layers (now raster layers) are very much offset from their original position. Do you find that? If the 'text' layers were full canvas size then no problem.

I do not get this bit quote..when i open multiple tabs and click on one and try editing text i get "fatal error unhandled exception"..unquote Is this when adding text or is that an error when you send the open file to the printer ?

If it is a printing error, try Layer -> New from Visible from top of layer stack before printing. Might prove something / nothing.

Too many questions about using multi-layer tiff as a format Wink The alternatives in Gimp apart from .xcf are .psd and .ora (open-raster format)

Maybe someone will come up with a solution.

If you need to go back to Gimp 2.10.12 https://download.gimp.org/mirror/pub/gimp/v2.10/windows/gimp-2.10.12-setup-3.exe

hi, the "fatal error unhandled exception". sometimes happens when switching from one tab to the other and when deleting some text and adding, say delete "11" and change it to "34" for example, i just dont get why an update makes for a program not working the same, i do nothing different in the new version to what i did in the previous version so i cant see why i would get problems, i remember before 2.10.12 when saving tiff files i could leave "save layers" box ticked and it would print all the layers i needed, and upon 2.10.12 i had to "untick save layers box" for the same effect, the devs confuse me lol. anyway i am going to revert back to 2.10.12 until a newer version than the current one is available. thanks so much for the help.

Editing text layers then, nothing to do with tif format. Still can not reproduce that.

Regressions (an introduced bug) can happen with any software, Gimp is no exception.
There are bug reports for tiff handling going back. This 'issue' is for Gimp 2.10.12 so that version is not too clever either.  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/issues/3890

Just in case you have saved (to .xcf) in Gimp 2.10.14 there is a backward compatibility problem with text when opening in Gimp 2.10.12. The text is still editable but loses some properties ..size for example.

--------------------------
For anyone else coming to this post and needing to export multi-layers, my advice is avoid tiff format, the whole thing is very flaky. You can use .xcf  / .psd / .ora

Examples using Gimp 2.10.12 (2.10.14 the same)   Canvas size can have an effect. Showing side-by-side xcf / tif
800 x 800 gives offsets to text layers: https://i.imgur.com/bRBa4iK.jpg
600 x 800 no offsets: https://i.imgur.com/inSzCAr.jpg
Do not ask me why.
