How do I make bubble font text? - marigolden - 12-17-2019

I tried to follow these instructions but couldn't find anything under filters that says "Alpha to Logo". Does anyone know of another way to make bubble font?

"Alpha to Logo" filters were part of Gimp 2.8, no longer in 2.10
Do you have an example of the bubble font you want? Those instructions don't show the final result.

This general look, although I'm not going to have a sheen, outline, color or anything just solid black

The first one:-
1. Type some text with a font of your choice.
2. Right click the the text layer in the layers dialogue and select "Text to Path"
3. In the paths dialogue make the path visible.
4. Make a new transparent layer and make it active.
5. Do Edit > Stroke Path, using "Stroke Line". Set width. (Uses the foreground colour)

The second one:-
Use this Plastic Or Glass script (attached).
Unzip and put it in the scripts folder of your user profile (ask here if you have not done this before).
Once installed, you will find it under Filters > Alpha to Logo

If you own G'Mic Qt :

- type text on tranparent layer (black)
- G'Mic Qt
- Rendering / 3D Extrusion
- Colours / Colourise
- you can use levels or curves to correct

Thank you! I think a script is my best bet. Now though I'm thinking I do want an outline and color in the middle. Where do you find those scripts? I tried to find more like it and couldn't

4. Create a new transparent layer above the text.

5. Edit > Stroke Path (use Stroke Line) ; foreground colour will be used

6. Turn off path visiblilty

(7. Optional - move outline layer above or below the text layer - your choice)

Blighty, just put the Plastic Or Glas script in my scripts folder and this is the result if I ask for plastic :

[attachment=3624]

If I undo after a few times after the scrip is done, I see 5 layers. If I switch the first two layers then I see a plastic font. (bug in the script ?)
If I select glas then is the result poor, there is only a little dark bump to see.

The script give no error
