Windows fonts no longer available - scottsimages - 01-16-2020

After updates to Windows and to Gimp, I no longer have access to fonts. Arial is the only font available. I have tried a few solutions, i.e. resetting Windows font cache, re-install of Gimp, etc...nothing works. I did find an option that allows me to use Windows fonts in a separately accessible window, but the fonts are not available in the gimp text dialogs. Suggestions?

Windows 10 Pro x64 1909
Gimp 2.10.14

Trying to replicate that in a Basic Windows 10 / Gimp 2.10.14 VM without success. Tried both install for all and install for me only incase that affects things. All the fonts showing.

Re-installing Gimp rarely does anything, all the settings are in the post-install gimp user profile which remains between installations.

Can you expand on that. Which separately accessible window?

For a regular installation I see this. Do you get the same?

On the other hand if you search plenty complaints to MS about fonts not showing in various applications not just Gimp.

Thanks for the feedback. I added the windows/fonts folder. They appear in #1 of your screenshot, but not accessible in #2 or #3.

(1) is the text tool options. I do see some users with tool options closed, IMHO not a good idea.

However, back to your problem. Again I cannot replicate from your description "... but the fonts are not available in the gimp text dialogues" but I wonder if it is a selected text issue. That will 'freeze' text. Have a look at this video - only 3 minutes so not too arduous. https://youtu.be/uSQWESD3v9M Does anything apply to the issue?

If it is a bug then the place to report it is  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/issues/  but I would advise waiting a little to see if any other Windows 10 / Gimp 2.10.14 users report a similar problem.

After another reboot of my PC, the Windows fonts are back, and yes, I do experience the problem in the video. The only way I can change the font of any text is to start typing it in the text dialogue and selecting it from the list.

Steps...

1. In Gimp, goto Edit/Preferences/Folders/Fonts
2. Click the add icon
3. Browse to and add C:\Windows\Fonts
4. Reboot computer
5. May need to clear temp files, etc. and reboot again

Unless there has been some update to Win 10, adding C:\Windows\Fonts should not be necessary. That is Windows system and you get there by default even if everything else is missing.
I wonder what is happening? Any regular Windows users out there ?

The paths to User / Gimp fonts  are:

That to me is normal.
Select text tool
Choose font from tool options
Click in canvas to start entering text.
If you want to change the font, select one from the tool options fonts.

The only thing to prevent changing text is if you (the user) has selected all the text, as that video, and  not a usual action, just one to be aware of.
